Solar Thermal Rebates and Incentives
The Canadian government is actively promoting the solar thermal industry through the EcoEnergy programs. There are both home incentives and industrial⁄commercial⁄multi-unit residential incentives. API is focused on the large system market in Canada.

Solar Thermal is the single most effective way to harness the energy from the sun in to useable heat for industrial processes, or for domestic hot water heating in multi unit residential buildings. These projects are fast becoming more economical and they pay for themselves in under 10 years in Ontario. In order for the maximum RIO to be realized from the opportunity, the tax advantages need to be figured in as well.

EcoEnergy for Renewable Heat Initiative

Using the power of the sun to heat buildings and water not only helps businesses lower costs, but it reduces the amount of harmful emissions produced. The ecoENERGY for Renewable Heat program is a four–year, $36 million investment to:
- Increase the use of renewable thermal energy by industry, commercial businesses and institutions
- Boost the amount of renewable thermal energy created for these sectors
- Contribute to cleaner air by helping Canadian businesses use less fossil fuel– based energy for space and water heating in buildings across the country
- The program’s maximum payment for solar hot water projects is $400,000. This will allow the ecoEnergy for Renewable Heat program to contribute to larger infrastructure projects while stimulating economic activity across all regions.
The government is making a significant contribution to projects and this means that you can take advantage of the financial incentives. Ontario Government – Ontario Solar Thermal Heating Incentive (OSTHI)
This program is the Province of Ontario equivalent to the above EcoEnergy Federal program. In short, the Ontario government will match the Federal incentive contribution up to $80,000 currently. The OSTHI program used the same criteria and one of the requirements for a rebate is to meet and qualify for the Federal program. API will complete all necessary documents for both programs as part of a system installation. Please note that all incentives are paid by the government after system commissioning.
Office of Energy Efficiency initiative
Another program that is available to you is the ecoENERGY Efficiency Initiative through the Office of Energy Efficiency can be found here.
